What the draft law says, and where it stands

In August 2026, Maharashtra published a draft law to regulate private coaching, the Maharashtra Private Coaching Centers (Registration and Regulation) Act, 2026. It is a draft, not a law. The Free Press Journal and SCC Online describe it. It would apply to centres with more than 25 students. The feedback window first closed on 4 September 2026, and Punekar News reported that after 11,410 objections and suggestions it was extended to 15 September, with a Bill expected in a coming session. As of 2 November 2026 we found no report that it has become law. Some class owners object to parts of it, such as the under-13 limit, as Careers360's headline says. We read press reports, not the draft itself, so check the text before you act.

Whatever the final version says, records will matter. Here is how the proposals, as reported, line up with what the software can keep.

The draft also proposes fines. As reported, minor violations would cost Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh and major ones Rs 10 lakh to Rs 50 lakh. That is why a clean fee record is worth having.

A worked example: three branches, one refund

Take a class with branches in Dadar, Borivali and Thane and 240 students in all. This is an example, not a customer. A student joins the Borivali branch for a 12-month course at Rs 48,000, paid in four instalments of Rs 12,000. She pays two instalments, Rs 24,000, and leaves at the end of month 4. If the final law keeps a pro-rata refund, the fee for the months used is Rs 16,000 (4 of 12 months), so Rs 8,000 would be refunded. To answer that in ten days you need three things on one screen: the course fee, what was paid and when, and the date she left. Questions to put to any software vendor

Whoever you choose, ask three things. Has the vendor read the draft itself, or only the news? Does a fee receipt show the course, the date and the amount? Can each branch keep its own records and still roll up to you? Ask us the same, and try the answers on your own fee data in the trial.

What the software is, and is not

LMS & Institute is not a video platform. There are no video courses, online lessons or quizzes. If that is what you need, look elsewhere.
Parent updates can be shared on WhatsApp with one tap. Messages that go out on their own need your own WhatsApp Business API, with Meta billing you directly. Parents can also have their own logins.
Not covered: doubt sessions, answer-sheet evaluation, study material and mentorship.
